Successful Career Day with Macon Early College Students

On Friday September 23, 2011 the Franklin Young Professionals put on a career fair for the Macon Early College students.  The fair was held in the lobby of Southwestern Community College.  We had about a dozen local businesses and organizations represented and even more individual career fields represented.  Businesses represented at the fair included Drake Software, Tektone, Macon Bank, Franklin Veterinary Hospital, Duotech Services, REACH, Wayah Insurance, Marty Kimsey Reality, Lamplighter Reality, Town of Franklin, Land Trust for the Little Tennessee, Macon County Schools, and Stay & Play in the Smokies.  FYP had a great turn out of participants and we completely filled the lower lobby area.  The booths were all wonderful and very professional.  There were a lot of hands on displays, visuals, and giveaways at each booth.  We were able to interact with the majority of the students that attend MEC.
Our goal was to not only showcase our own careers and help promote local businesses, but to show the students that there are numerous opportunities right here in Macon county for successful careers.  We wanted to promote and encourage the students to continue on in their educational pursuits but to then consider returning back to Macon county.  Many of the students already had an idea of what their career goals were, but there were also quite a few that are still very open to different options.  We were able to give these students a closer look at a wide variety of different career fields and allowed them to ask questions and be challenged.
We are looking forward to the many opportunities that are now available to us with the Macon Early College students following up with the career fair.  We were very excited about this chance to showcase our individual talents and to bring some perspective to these students.  Future career fairs with MEC and possibly other local schools are already in the works.  Feel free to contact FYP if you have any questions or suggestions.

FYP Backs the Carenet Weekend Backpack Program

Franklin Young Professionals has teamed up with Macon County CareNet and our local schools to help fight child hunger in our community. Every week hundreds of students in Macon County go home to little or no food on the weekends.  The weekend backpack program involves sending these students home with easy to prepare food on Fridays to help them get through the weekend until they have school lunches available during the week.  FYP has stepped up to help CareNet acquire the food necessary to feed these hungry kids.  We have challenged each of our members to collect enough food for at least 5 kids each month, which will support a minimum of 150 students each month.  The program is continuing through the summer for the first time this year and CareNet needs all the help it can get to help out the youth in this community.

If you are interested in helping out our cause or if you would like to hear more about our group or the Weekend Backpack Program please contact an FYP member or email us at fyp28734@gmail.com.

FYP Gets Incorporated

Franklin Young Professionals, Inc is now officially incorporated!  We had our organizational meeting on March 15, 2011 and were chartered with 26 founding members.  We have worked very hard to get established and to structure our organization.  We are very excited to finally be an official community group.  "FYP," as we affectionately call ourselves, has already been involved in a number of Franklin Main Street functions and a large fundraiser for CareNet and Manna Food Bank.  Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to help get the group on their feet and for those who have helped with our community outreach thus far!

FYP Organizational Meeting: 3/15/11

We are actively seeking out new members.  Please contact us if you are interested in membership or if you have any questions about our organization.  We are also always on the lookout for community outreach opportunities and activities.

Welcome to our Blog!
